« Thread started on: Jan 26th, 2007, 12:20am »

There was very little light throughout the guild at any time, much less throughout the night. A few dim lamps shone lightly in the corners and high on the walls, moonlight came through the skylight and streaked across the floor of the main lobby hall. There was almost no one in the building, the night being prime for thieving. The front door opened up into what used to be a small movie theatre with one hall. The entrance wasn’t well kept, but not poorly so either. There was nothing in the concession and no movies playing, but the grandiose double doors that stood ten feet high and were each four feet wide, built of solid oak were the entrance to the guilds main lobby. It had been a movie hall in the past so was quite large, but the place had been extensively renovated to suite the needs of Seebo’s thieves. It was the place he started when he contended for power and then continued through his reign. The hidden palace was in a somewhat run down part of town, though not the most severe of grunges.

Seebo carried Miranda through the front doors into the theatre entrance and the enormous doors to the guild swung calmly open before him as the outer door closed behind him. The few thieves that were in the building at the time remained completely silent. They all knew when the king arrived and they also knew whom it was he held in his arms. A few eyes watched from the corners, some from the balconies and a few from down the hall. There had been a grand stairwell erected on either side of the hall at the far end from the door. Each led to a balcony that ran with its railings across the length of the theatre and into the hallways on the second level. They each joined at the front of the room by an extension of the two balconies that ran above the doors, replacing the old projector room. There was a short stairwell at center stage that led onto what used to be the stage, where the screen had been. That platform served as a parting of ways. There was a small path from it onto either of the stairwells and all around the sides and back of the platform were great archways into other hallways. The small sets of stairs that had led down to the emergency exits on either side of the screen when movies played had been turned into larger stairwells in large arched tunnels that led under the building to where there was more of the guild.

Seebo marched straight up the center stage steps and through the archway that ran directly in front of the stairs. A few feet back from the stage through that path was another set of steps that led up higher than even the main hall’s fifteen foot mid level. The stairs were six feet wide and led up to the fourth and top floor of what had been a small hotel adjacent to the former theatre. That level was where the king made his home, the VIP suite having been tailored to his own tastes in the renovations. There was an entire mini mansion on Seebo’s private level, the entrance of course being a small lobby separating the public stairwell from his own home. Those steps also split off at a couple platforms with two doors each to other parts of the guild. Seebo did after all need to have as much of the guild as quickly accessible as possible.

Seebo carried Miranda passed the black leather sofa and sofa seats that sat in the little lobby with the black wood framed glass top coffee table on an off white rug, opened up the door straight ahead on the white walls, between the few dark colored decorations. There were also two other doors in the room, one at either side that led to another stairwell and more access to more parts of the guild, and the other to his office.

Once through the last door, Seebo and Miranda were in the king’s home and passing over a six-foot clearance that separated the lowered floor living room from the main level dining room and the raised floor kitchen that had it’s counter overlooking the living room. The little lobby was rounded on the left side, which made a rounded wall on the other side as well. The dining room was on the right of the door and the kitchen was beside it, just slightly over and at an angle so it faced the entrance and the living room at the same time, while siding itself on the dining room and a small wall on the other side. The main level platform continued around the rounded wall on the left side, leaving an even grounded passage between the wall and the living room. Around that turn was where Seebo had a personal library split between a corner of the main level and an almost square room on a raised surface. Beside the library, continuing along the main level passage was a door to the bathroom and then fifteen feet over was the door to Seebo’s bedroom.

The decorations through Seebo’s home were similar to those in his little lobby. The floors were mostly an off white carpet, though the kitchen and dining room were hardwood and there was an area of stone tiles over a space about six feet in any direction from the fire place in the living room. All the walls were white but decorated with various artworks throughout the place. All the frames on any piece that had one were black, most photos were black and white images and all drawings were uncolored. The paintings were mostly abstract, and mostly dark colors. There were also several swords and daggers on various parts of the walls. There were a couple antique war helms stationed in corners; one in the living room and one at the front of the library. The furniture was black leather, the coffee table was also black wood framed with a glass top. All lights were covered by fogged glass shades and the windows, which there were many, all had black satin curtains. The wall opposite the entrance had a window through the living room that ran almost from one side to the other, spreading a little over thirty feet of the wall. That window also had its pair of black satin curtains, but those ones when closed had one enormous Chinese character in brilliant red one either side. One meant honor and the other was pride.

The enormous window in the living room as well as all the windows on that side of the building for that matter faced a magnificent view of the city. The guild was at the top of a hill and was on the hump its self. Forward below that side of the guild was the city outstretched before it, mountains across it, and even the lake to the left of it. There was a door on the right side of the window that led out to a balcony overlooking the view and met with another door into the kitchen.

That view that Seebo usually stopped to look at every time he passed was forgotten that time as he marched by with Miranda struggling in his arms against the dark mage’s experiments. He opened the door to his room and carried Miranda in. He had a king sized bed covered in a number of blankets, the top one fashioned to fit quite well with the rest of his decorations. The window in Seebo’s bedroom was opposite the door and overlooked the rest of the guild and the rest of the neighborhood with it. The bed was against middle of the wall at the far right from the door. There was a door on either side of the bed, the left door from the perspective of looking at the bed was the bathroom, and the other was his closet. on the left of the window was one more door. it led to a small balcony that hung along the edge of the old hotel and over the old theater where one could even see through the skylight in the main guild hall.

Seebo laid Miranda down onto the bed then knelt on the floor and knelt over her, watching her closely as he laid one hand on her cheek. “You’re home now Miranda.” Seebo said softly with a loving smile on his face. “My home anyways.” He reiterated then and kissed her on the forehead.

Miranda breathed erratically the entire way to his domain, her breaths came inwards sharply and outwards, raggedly. Her heart beat as if she’s was in the middle or nd of a long marathon and sweat beaded up on her forehead like dew on the grass after a spring storm. She did seem to be holding her arms about his neck as if she at least knew she was with him, though her fingers clasped in one another as if she would never quite let go. She mumbled incoherently from time to time as they walked through the great building he called home.

When Seebo laid her on the bed, Miranda’s fingers released one another as if consciously aware that he was laying her down to safety. Her cheek would feel clammy, chilled in contrast to the sweat building up on her forehead. She was cold, very cold to the touch.

She turned her head as if she was looking at Seebo for a few moments and then relaxed it again, so that she would be looking at the ceiling, if her eyes were open.

“Your home?” She asked inside her own mind. “Safe.” She ended that line of thoughts.

Her thoughts were racing still, form one moment to the next in rapid movements, like jumping from one set of stones and then back again, only to jump to another totally different set again.

“The show, what about Doric?” She began to question and then her mind flicked again in another direction. “You love me?” She questioned. “Seebo….” His name she did say out loud this time just before she winced, then screamed out in pain as the poison redirected itself once more and began attacking her mind harder this time.

When her scream subsided, her mind began to race once more. “Just leave us alone.” She was saying, though outwardly or not, she couldn’t tell. “I love you.” She said somewhere in the time she was laying there, though it was not out loud. “Hold me.” She then said, this time the words did come to the surface and from her lips.

Seebo had been working hard to control the power he had been manifesting throughout the night. He had gotten carried away in the use of it, though rightly so, and he had to assure him self that he was still in control. He kept himself aware on a level far beyond any possible without the use of magic. He had to be sure he would know if Dakham or anyone else for that matter was approaching them. He did seal off his mind in a more specific manner to avoid hearing the unspoken thoughts of the people around him. Because he was being conservative again, Seebo didn’t hear the thoughts that Miranda had tried to say.

He had been watching her closely though and noticed her every little move, listened to her every little mumble. His name though, he did catch quite clearly as she spoke it out in an audible manner. A few mumbles after that couldn’t be construed for anything specific at the time, but so long as she was in fact thinking consistently, Seebo was satisfied in knowing at least that she was still winning the war in her mind.

As soon as Miranda spoke her next full words, Seebo complied with her spoken will without any hesitance. He was of course far more than willing to do what she asked, and immediately put his arms around her as he leaned over the bed. His one hand lifted her shoulders up off the bed just enough so he could put his arms around her all the way.

“I love you.” He said quietly, repeating the sentiment that he had expressed earlier that night in a sudden revelation. He imagined she wouldn’t hear him, or at least that she wouldn’t understand him. His saying so was more for him to hear himself say it again, to feel it roll off his tongue again and think about it than it was for her to hear. When he said it, he laid his head down on her chest and listed to her heartbeat and her lungs breath. He didn’t say anything after, only thought in silence as he laid with her and held her in his arms, his head on her chest as he knelt on his knees and leaned over her.

No, she couldn’t understand him, only hear his voice or more the vibration of his voice than anything else, her mind was too busy working through its torment to acknowledge much else really, save for the things she had to know, such as her safety and that he was there with her.

She could feel the pressure of his arms holding her and aain the same sensation on her chest when he laid his head down, though she couldn’t be certain, she allowed her mind to think that he was doing just as he was and this made her inwardly smile, though on the outside, she showed nothing of emotion, not pain or anger, nor even happiness.

Several long hours passed and her breathing began to return to normal though her heart still raced with the stress of the poison in her system, though most of it had been swept away in her perspiration and was dried in the air. She breathed in deeply once, held her breath and then let it out slowly and her body relaxed then shuddered a couple times before she let her breath out again without taking it in, this time, she did not breath back in again, her heart slowed to a stop and she lay there, as if dead for several moments till finally, with a large gasp and a shudder again of her body, she started to breath once more, the rhythmic sound of her heart began to beat in her chest and she seemed to sleep quietly for now.

Another hour passed in silence, Miranda in a silent, comfortable sleep. “Seebo?” She questioned, her eyes still closed. “Where are we?” She asked, her voice very tired and weak but obviously she was awake.

She moved her hand over his arm and up to his shoulder where she gave him a slight, weak squeeze to show him she was ‘back’.

Seebo had stayed exactly where he was the whole time that Miranda laid sleeping on the bed. He had even almost dozed off during the hour that Miranda was peacefully asleep, but he had been concentrating hard enough on keeping aware that he also stayed awake. There was quite a bit of comfort to be found in the steady pace of Miranda’s breathing and of her heartbeat. The erratic breathing and beat of her heart had been somewhat disturbing for those hours, worrying Seebo about Miranda’s well being. The fact that she had continued to breath though was a good sign.

Seebo had been scared nearly lifeless when Miranda’s heart had stopped, threatening to leave her dead instead of safely restored to life. She pulled through though, and his comfort is what caused him to nearly fall asleep.

When Miranda spoke, Seebo was full attention once again. His head lifted off her chest and he turned to look at her. It took a couple seconds after she finished speaking for Seebo to collect the answer, even as simple as it was. “My house.” He said calmly, an extremely happy and relieved smile then gracing his lips. It had taken him that time to collect the words because of that very same relief. “Well,” he continued with a coy grin. “It’s not really a house, but you know what I mean.”

Miranda smiled as he spoke to her, she now could actually hear and understand him, though she still did nto open her eyes, she was smiling quite happily, though tiredly at the same time. “No, I fear I don’t know what you mean, wher a person lives is their home after all… right?” She questioned, her mind used to working so it continued to question and seek things to grasp to even in her exhausted state.

She didn’t wait for him to answer her inquiry though before she began once more to talk. “I feel like I have been run over by a truck, a really large one…” She paused and took a deep breath. “Twenty or more times.” She finished and then went silent, her breathing steady, the rhythm of her heart normal for her exhausted state though she began to move her hand up to and then through his locks.

“I love you too Seebo.” She then said and managed to smile slightly and even opened her eyes slightly to look down at him as he lay on her chest.

Seebo was quiet through everything Miranda said, though he did let out a little chuckling at the extent of her describing her metaphor. He found it kind of cute how she felt the need to elaborate, though obviously found nothing funny about the meaning of what she said. He went completely quiet again when she said she loved him. Seebo had said it to her, and he was trying to wrap his mind around that one. It wasn’t the words that shocked him, but the fact that he felt so inclined to say them. The same principle applied to his shock at Miranda’s saying so as well. The idea that she felt so inclined to say those words to him, that she felt like she said she did was something else that Seebo would have to run his mind over time and time again.

After a few moments of silence, Seebo lifted his head again and turned once more to look at Miranda. “It is my home of course.” He started, keeping quiet about what she had said as he continued to mull it over in his mind. “But it’s not a house. We’re on what was the top floor of the Belle View hotel, now my home sitting above my guild.” He explained his statement on his house not being a house, a purely blissful smile on his face all the while as he continued to think about her reply to his own three words.

Miranda ay there quietly as he spoke, telling of how his home is not a house, she closed her eyes back shut again and grinned once more. “But it is a home now, a house. It is your house.” She said silently, her voice a whisper. “You’ve made it your own and even the largest Castle is still a house.” She finished that statement and then tilted her head back as if she would be looking up at the ceiling, though her eyes remained shut. “Doric once told me that a house is a home and if this is indeed your home then it is indeed also, your home.” She put in as an after thought and a slight smile.

Miranda was quiet then for a long time, resting her mind this time, thinking of absolutely nothing save for that look on his face when he looked at her and she caught as her eyes were still open, though her vision was slightly blurred, she could tell he was ‘happy’, so to speak.

“I think I need a shower, no bath, I don’ t think I could stand that long.” She then said, wrinkling her nose.

“So you say that a house is a figurative term for the principle of a building that is your home?” he asked, confirming what she said in his own means. To him, a house was a type of building that was used as a home by whoever lived there. Seebo always knew the guild was his home, it was his place, and it was his legacy. He had built the guild for his reign, for the thieves he commanded, and as an image of his pride. The guild was a testament to Seebo’s work, far more than a home.

“I’ll go run you a bath then.” He said with a smile as he rose up off her chest. Seebo kissed Miranda on the forehead again and then stood up. “Won’t take more than a couple minutes.” He told her as he walked around the bed and through the door on the other side of the bed. Seebo turned the water on in the Jacuzzi tub, waited a few seconds and then tested the temperature. After making sure the water was right, he plugged the drain and walked back out of the room.

The floors in the bathroom were ceramic tile, colored lightly beige. There was a large mirror over the sink and counter, which was topped with marble. Just like the rest of the house, the walls in the bathroom were white and the decorations were black in contrast. The tub was white of course, but the curtains were black.

When he left the bathroom, Seebo kneeled on the bed and bent down over Miranda. He planted another kiss on her forehead and smiled down at her. “Won’t be long now.” He said quietly.

Miranda tried a sleepy and tired smile at him as he got up to go draw her a bath. HE was so attentive, she thought perhaps she could get used to this.

As she lay there, as he was in the other room, she closed her eyes once more and relaxed but as she began drifting back to sleep, images of the Mage and that room entered her mind and she popped her eyes open again and sighed.

She was not ready to deal with that just yet and so she wouldn’t, she took a large, deep breath and let it out slowly; her eyes now open for good, or at least for a while. She might have been exhausted, but she wasn’t about to be haunted by memories, not yet.

Seebo returned and knelt over her on the bed, kissing her forehead again, telling her that she’d soon enough be in the tub. She smiled up at him, her onyx orbs showing just how tired she was. Where they once sparkled with a light unmatched by most jewels, they now remained dull showing no light at all.

“Thank you Seebo.” She told him and raised her right hand and laid it on his cheek for a moment before allowing her arm to rest back on the bed again.

“How long was I out?” She asked him then. “I know it wasn’t as long as he’d have wanted, but how long?” She extended her question.

“It’ll be morning soon.” Seebo replied simply to Miranda’s question. He had heard her sigh and sudden deep breath, but there was no point in rehashing what she was remembering just then. The breaths were obviously due to her attempt to keep sound of mind, and he would allow her to keep it without any hindrance. “Sun’s up in under an hr.” he continued, a soft smile then on his face. “There’s a wonderful view of it through the living room window.” He finished, raising himself upright on his knees beside her.

He turned his head back towards the bathroom door for half a second and then back to Miranda. “The tub fills up fast.” He said with that same soft smile. “It should be about ready now.” Seebo paused for a second and then leaned back down towards Miranda. He slid one arm under her knees and the other under her back and lifted her up. Seebo then backed up to the edge of the bed and stood onto his feet, then turned around and walked into the bathroom. There was a white gloss surface like a bleached marble in a pie type shape at one end of the tub. There was a single step onto it, and the surface itself was a sort of extension to the rim of the tub. Seebo set Miranda down on that surface, padded by the black rug that covered the interior of the platform.

“Water’s ready.” He said with a smile as he ran one hand through it and then turned off the tap.

Miranda put her arms around his neck as he lifted her from the bed. “Well, maybe after my bath we can go watch it then, if you aren’t too tired.” She told him, laying her head on his shoulder as he carried her into the bathroom.

When he sat her down, she looked down at the hospital type gown she still wore. “I hope you have a robe or something I can put on. I think this needs to be burned.” She said as her eyes moved up to look at him form her attire.

She looked then about the bathroom, her eyes taking in the entire room as they moved. “This is huge.” She commented. “I think you could put my entire kitchen in here.” She grinned and then turned her eyes to the water, as it was finishing filling in the large tub.

She dipped her fingers in the water and began moving them about in a circular motion and then looked up at Seebo as she removed her hand, moving it to the back of her clothing and united the strings behind her neck. The gown slid off her shoulder and she moved her hand to the middle of her back and untied that string too then smiled. “Ok, ready to get in then.” She smiled and then lifted her feet over the edge of the tub and as she slid in, she tossed the gown over her shoulder to land o the floor in the room.

Seebo chuckled at Miranda’s comment about the size of his bathroom, but went silent as soon as he was distracted by her hand pulling at her gown strings. He hadn’t even gotten around to saying anything of a robe, of which she could surely use any one of the many robes he had. The things did fit quite well with the cliché style of a thief after all.

Seebo knew Miranda’s eyes were on him as she untied the strings on her gown, so his eye set could be quite awkward. He did consider though that she was obviously doing as she was on purpose, so wouldn’t mind his wandering eyes. Seebo peered down at Miranda’s chest as the gown slid down to reveal her naked breasts and his eyes continued to follow the decent of the cloth over her waistline, hips, and thighs. He wasn’t thinking about the effect the current view was having on him, only enjoying what he saw but Miranda would more than likely be able to tell. He blinked a couple times when she spoke next, and then turned his head to watch her slide into the bath. “So I’m supposed to get in too?” he asked, reassuring he’d heard her right while a little smile turned up in his mesmerized face.

Miranda slid her head under the water and then slowly came back up, brining her hands to her hair and pushing her locks backwards out of her face then beamed up at him. “Well, unless you want to miss the sunrise when you take a separate shower.” She stated with a smirk.

She then looked him from head to tow with that same, almost accusing smirk on her lips. “I mean, you’re not exactly clean either you know.” She stated with a raised brow. “Besides, I need someone to wash my back for me.” She laughed and then splashed some water at him playfully, soaking his pants.

“Well?” She questioned. “Coming?”

Miranda as tired, exhausted in all actuality, but she was also very relieved and happy to be with Seebo again, and she was wanting to have him close to her as much as possible at this moment, The security he gave her was just the thing she really needed right now and her playfulness after such an ordeal was perhaps her way of allowing herself to know she was going to be ok. Certainly, she would have her time to cry over what happened, be terrified by what had been done, worry about any long lasting effects of the poison, but right now, right in this bathroom with Seebo, she just wanted to feel happy, and that is exactly how she was feeling, tired, but happy.

“Well I wouldn’t want to waste any time I guess.” Seebo said after two blinks and a sharp breath of air. He really wouldn’t mind washing more than just her back, but getting in the tub with her was the first thing he’d have to do. He didn’t say anything to reply to her rhetorical question, just pulled his shirt over his head and undid his pants to have them slide down to the floor. By the time he was undoing the button and zipper on his pants Seebo realized his current state, but didn’t hesitate. He stepped into the tub one foot at a time behind Miranda as she sat in the hot bath water.

As Seebo lowered himself into the tub, he kept himself a few inches back from her to avoid the awkwardness of pressing his firm self against her back. Miranda had welcomed him to a bath but he wasn’t about to impress his then perverted state of mind on her. “Ah.” He resounded when he finally got himself rested fully into the bath. “Nice and hot.” He stated obviously while dipping his hands into the water briefly before putting them onto Miranda’s back.
